Winter Activities in RI to Enjoy on the Weekend!
Oh baby it’s cold outside so what can you do besides the movies and shopping…well here are RI winter activities to enjoy on the weekend! Make no mistake you need to get out of the house to do them but it is well worth the boot and mitten shuffle:
– Head on down to the Quonset Air Museum outside of Wickford Village at 488 Ecceleston Avenue to catch World War II history at its finest. The original Naval Air Station Quonset Point hangar with all its historical memorabilia to view. There is more to the Seabees than meets the eye!
– Clayground’s Pottery and Glass Fusing Studio at 5600 Post Road, East Greenwich is a place to get artistic and see what talent you have. You can actually do some glass fusing here or for the less adventurous just paint some pottery. Hmm, I can see a mother’s day gift in the works… (unfortunately, as of 2013 the studio is now closed, sorry)
-Voila Gallery at 31 West Main Street in Wickford Village offers classes for all levels of artists in all kinds of venues. Are you ready to show your Georgia O’Keefe work to the world yet? If not here is a great place to get your skill set honed. Plus you can stop by the Foodie goodie store next door in Wickford and get a home made muffin to reward yourself afterwards.
-Thames Street Glass at 688 Thames Street, Newport allows you to take the inner hot air and create glass blowing creations for family heritage sake. Perhaps make a paperweight or decorative item of a one of a kind nature- now that’s a unique activity to explore I’d say.
–Frosty Drew Observatory at 61 Park Lane Charlestown is a wonderful place to view falling stars and catch the Big and Little Dipper and shining nebulae in the cosmos. Yes, they are open in the winter too shortly after 4:46 p.m….so don’t miss the sky extravaganza.
Enjoy the winter season and freezing temperatures! It is time to get out and do things to get that locomotion going. Winter activities in RI to enjoy on the weekend!
