December  2022 – My Two (Cents) Sense Real Estate E-Newsletter

It’s the season for all good little boys and girls and may you all enjoy those in your lives.  With peace and kindness we carry on.  So much for the snow here in RI but hold on as January approaches.  Yes, those mortgage rates are up and will stay up as the Federal Reserve attempts to control inflation and bring it down.  However, the reality is you can not bring inflation down much without causing pain to many in this environment.   Unemployment will need to increase to do it. Global inflation rates are an issue too and  those economies impact our economic recovery too. The next couple of years will be a challenge to many so just be aware of all your debt levels.

Real estate home inventory remains low, home sale prices are moderating (still many going over asking) but demand remains strong in RI towns.  In Washington County all towns show increases in home sale prices over 2021 (which was a strong year) in the 12%-26% range so far through this November (yet housing sales were way below 2021 except in N Kingstown).  It has been a strong year in RI real estate but the lack of new lower & moderate priced housing still remains a need for the future of many buyers whether upsizing or downsizing.

Do You Know about HYGGE?

Pronounced hoo-ga by the Danes.  Actually there is an Institute of Happiness in Denmark which is interesting in itself since the Danish people are constantly rated one of the ‘happiest’ people in the world.  75% of Danes bike to work everyday, taxes are extremely high like the other Scandinavian countries to care for all and they have  strong caring for families & friends.  It is an interesting country I would like to spend some time in.  Yes, I know the U.S. is unlikely to end up their way ever!  I do wonder if they have longer & better lives?

Worthwhile Organizational Hack

The over the door shoe organizers can help you organize any craft, pantry or kids room (think of Legos!).  Even kids’ snacks so they can grab them easily, winter gloves, hats & mittens.  Everyone seems to have more ‘things’ than storage space and these organizers are cheap and useful.  Dollar stores have them!

Hate Doing Any Yard Work?

It is not that I have the crew to enlighten the drudgery for you but some landscaping ideas that will lessen the chores outside.  1) Create a low maintenance outdoor space in the Spring with rocks and blue stone and/or pavers for walkways (maybe a lot if you really do not want lawn), 2) Add a platform deck (composites, ipe & cedar last a long time) so you don’t have to mow that area, 3) If you don’t like taking care of flowers add color to your yard with brilliant pots, bird baths and lounge chairs…and lots of stone. It works. A good time to plan for Spring.
