What is
Memorial Day to you?
To me it is being appreciative to all the men and women who have protected, guarded and fought for this country through the years. Truly tears run down my face when I think of this day and all the lives lost hopefully for the best reason of all to keep us free and the upholding of our Constitution we so cherish. It is such an emotional day for so many and as i walk this North Kingstown beach I ponder the lives who left us so soon.
Raise a flag today, salute our countrymen in uniform, honor a parade but do not let this Memorial day go by without a thought about these service men and women. I hang my old flag with 48 stars no less outside every year. It reminds me, as well as my neighbors, of where we have been, the oceans we have crossed and our own soil we have protected. It is no less of a day for THEM. We give ‘them’ a name… our Patriots.
North Kingstown Memorial Day tributes will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 30 with the wreath ceremonies at the Civil War Memorial at 80 Boston Neck Road and monuments at the Veterans Memorial Day Park. The ceremonies will allow time for prayers and the playing of “TAPS”. The parade will begin at 10 a.m from Wilson Park through the streets of Wickford to the Elm Grove Cemetery for the final wreath laying.
