Afficionados of the Newport Folk Festival in Newport RI 02840 wait all year for July 30- August 1st to enjoy the great music from fabulous musicians for 3 days in Newport and Fort Adams State Park. Kickoff is tonight at the Tennis Hall of Fame right in Newport on Bellevue Avenue and the wild and crazy guy Steve Martin is headling the show this evening with his band the Steep Canyon Rangers opening at 6:30 pm. On July 31st and August 1st the Newport Folk Festivalresonates from Fort Adams State Park and it is a blast. All festival seating is general admission. At the main stage which is near the water, seating is first-come, first- served on a large uncovered lawn. Attendees may bring blankets and low-backed beach chairs. Folding chair sections at the smaller stages are also first-come, first served. Tickets will run about $75 per day/adult. Gates open at 10 am. Drive or boat on over.
There are 3 stages at Fort Adams State Park with the main stage at the center of all music…but you can mosey around, leave your chair and check out the melodious music from the other stages too. You don’t want to miss the likes of Brandi Carlile, Richie Havens, John Prine, Levon Helm, the Avett Brothers, the Swell Season, Andrew Bird and dozens more!
Bring lots of sunscreen and water (1 small cooler allowed per person) because there is no shade here! Food vendors are available for your needs. Yes, and no alcohol is allowed.
My favorite way to enjoy this annual Newport Folk Festival is to be on a boat sitting in the harbor with great friends for the day. Any way you enjoy this visit to our historic city of Newport RI with so much to offer will be a treat. I will be hoofing it on foot at the main stage this year & perhaps you’ll recognize the RI Realtor in the sparkly red shoes along with you in the crowd.
