One thing about the Rhode Island real estate coastal towns is there is water, water everywhere like on Harbour Island in Narragansett RI 02882 – this is another gem of a waterfront community. It is a little further north in Narragansett than the Great Island neighborhood I have written about but just as peaceful and serene .
There are summer cottages, re-built homes and many new houses that have had their former home replacements razed so a good mix of houses for all tastes await you. I particularly like to be on the west side of Harbour Island on a friends’ deck watching a beautiful setting sun. The joys of home ownership whether for a summer home or year round home are here. Especially if you are a boater or kayaker, the ability to have a dock on Salt Pond (which leads out to Point Judith Pond and then to the Atlantic Ocean) is a big plus.
As you skirt around Wheatfield Cove, Pine Tree Point or Oak Hill Roads, the majority of the water side homes have large docks for their boats. Who wouldn’t want to sail into the sunset?! This is waterfront Rhode Island real estate to enjoy and live in here.
There are the windy roads and causeways to go through in this intricate set of small roads as well as up and down levels of elevation which is good…and why? Well, flood zone elevation needs to be considered when buying any Narragansett home for sale and here in this Harbour Island community as well (information to be found at www.FEMA.gov or give me a call for assistance). There are many waterfront sites that have a high enough 
elevation to not warrant flood insurance too.
Now Harbour Island is on your way to many of the state beaches such as Scarborough State Beach or Roger Wheeler Beach as well as it is just 30 minutes from Newport and 45 minutes from Providence RI. It is 5 minutes to Route 1 to any place north or south in Rhode Island real estate and beyond.
